Background

The Government of Kenya requested the UNCRD Africa Office to assist the Physical Planning Department, Ministry of Lands, Settlement & Housing, to train its planners in requisite knowledge and skills for effective regional development planning and to provide technical support in formulating a regional development plan for Kwale District and Mombasa South Mainland, Coast Province.

Objectives

To review data and information collected by regional planners and identify any existing gaps;
To train regional planners on data analysis for preparation of an integrated regional development plan in a coastal region;
To train regional planners in analyzing existing development situations and projecting future scenarios and identifying areas for policy intervention;
To train regional planners in integrated regional development strategies and programme formulation; and
To train regional planners in preparation of an integrated regional development plan and framework for implementation.
