Expert Consultation Meeting on NEW DECLARATION on 3R and Circular Economy at 10th 3R International Scientific Conference (3RINCs) on Material Cycle and Waste Management - Circular Economy Solutions, 15-17 March 2024, Sydney, Australia (3RINCs 2024)
Date
Under the Regional 3R and Circular Economy Forum in Asia and the Pacific, the Hanoi 3R Declaration (2013-2023) with its 33 goals was a first unprecedented voluntary commitment of Asia-Pacific countries in moving towards a more resource efficient and circular society. Even agreed during pre-Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) era, the Hanoi 3R Declaration provided an umbrella policy framework for developing and implementing 3R policies and programmes at all levels to help Asia-Pacific countries shift from linear to more resource efficient economy towards realization of a circular society. A circular economy makes use of various strategies such as 3Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle) that together eliminate waste, lower material and resource consumption and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. There is an intrinsic link between the circular economy and climate mitigation. The United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD) and Japan's Ministry of the Environment are jointly implementing the 3R initiative in advancing circular economy approach in Asia-Pacific region. The draft new 3R &CE Declaration (2024-2034) which will succeed the Hanoi 3R Declaration (2012-2023) will be discussed at the 10th 3RINCs for technical inputs. All researchers and experts worldwide who will participate in the 10th 3RINCs in 2024 are welcome to attend the UNCRD special session on 16 and 17 March 2024 jointly organized by UNCRD-DSDG/UN DESA, the Japan Society of Material Cycles and Waste Management (JSMCWM), and the 10th 3R International Scientific Conference on Material Cycles and Waste Management – Circular Economy Solutions (10th 3RINCs).
