Consultation meeting for South East Asian Countries on the Pre-Zero Draft of New Declaration on 3R and Circular Economy (2025-2034) (25-26 November 2024, Bangkok, Thailand)

2024/11/25 to 2024/11/26
Bangkok, Thailand

The United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) Sustainable Business Network (ESBN) will co-organize the Consultation meeting for South East Asian Countries on the Pre-Zero Draft of New Declaration on 3R and Circular Economy - Sustainable 3R and Circular Economy Goals for Achieving Resource Efficient, Clean, Resilient, Sound Material Cycle and Low-Carbon Society in Asia and the Pacific (2025-2034) at the UN Conference Centre (UNCC), UN ESCAP, Bangkok, Thailand, on 25-26 November 2024. The consultation meeting is organized in conjunction with the UN ESCAP’s Asia-Pacific Green Deal for Business Roundtable - Changing towards a more circular economy in Asia and the Pacific.

The consultation meeting aims to enhance a draft of the new Declaration on 3R and Circular Economy (2025-2034) by incorporating the perspectives of countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region, given that the ASEAN region, known for its rich biodiversity including a quarter of the world's mangrove forests and a third of its coral reefs, faces significant environmental challenges due to rapid population growth, urbanization, and industrialization.

This is the third consultation meeting in series followed by the SIDS (Pacific Island Countries) consultation meeting held in Apia, Samoa, on 14-17 May 2024 and the LLDCs (Landlocked Developing Countries) consultation meeting held in Vientiane, Lao PDR, on 6-7 August 2024. Based on the inputs, suggestions and feedback provided by the countries, the new Declaration on 3R and Circular Economy (2025-2034) will be further revised and is expected to be agreed at the 12th Regional 3R and Circular Economy Forum in Asia and the Pacific in early 2025.
