3R Workshop on Effective Waste Management and Resource Use Efficiency in East and Southeast Asia

Organizer: ADB, UNEP Regional Office for Asia and Pacific (ROAP), UNCRD, and IGES

 

Participants: Countries from East and Southeast Asia, International, regional organizations including UNEP/IETC, UNEP/ROAP, UNCRD (Kazunobu Onogawa, C.R.C. Mohanty), UNIDO, ADB, and IGES, NGO representatives such as APRSCP, South Pacific Regional Environmental Program (SPREP) and ASEAN, and Philippines stakeholders.

 

The meeting was organized with the objectives to:

(1) review and share experiences with key issues relating to resource efficiency and effective waste management in East and Southeast Asia, including:

Waste management in industry
Urban and post-consumer wastes management
Rural and agricultural wastes management
Investment demands for improved waste management
International trade in waste products
Local, national and international responses, and

 

(2) provide an important opportunity to obtain feedback for a review paper entitled "Toward Resource-efficient Economies for Asia and the Pacific-Reduce, Reuse and Recycle," which is being prepared by ADB.

In the workshop, C.R.C. Mohanty from UNCRD made a presentation on "National Strategies for 3R: Principles and Practice".
