The United Nations Office for Sustainable Development (UNOSD) and the United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD) co-organized the 2023 International Mayors Forum from 25 to 28 April 2023 in Dakar, Senegal. The Forum brought together an international audience of approximately ninety participants composed of mayors and leaders of local governments from developing countries, representatives of regional and international organizations, international experts, and other stakeholders. The participants discussed and shared about the successes and challenges, policy options, programmes, practices, initiatives as well as actions undertaken at the local level helping in achieving the SDGs, with a focus on SDGs 6, 7, 9, 11, and 17, the interlinkages between them, and their complementarities with other international agreements. With a strong belief in the potential of cities and their mayors to achieve the SDGs at the local level, there were thirty-three mayors, including from Senegal, who shared the challenges and opportunities in their cities.
