The Road to Beverage Cartons Recyclability

UNCRD-DSDG/UN DESA in collaboration with 3R Waste Foundation, Action Alliance for Recycling Beverage Cartons (AARC), All India Institute of Local Self-Government (AIILSG) and Urban Dialogues of UrbaUpdate, India, co-organized the webinar on "The Road to Beverage Cartons Recyclability' on 01 February 2022. As a pre-event of the upcoming 11th Regional 3R and Circular Economy Forum in Asia and the Pacific, the webinar was joined by about 55 domestic participants comprising of various stakeholders such as representatives of national and local governments, industry, and social enterprises. The objective of the webinar were to - (i) disseminate information amongst different target groups on beverage carton recycling; (ii) enhance capacities and knowledge of policy makers and experts to mend misconceptions regarding the recylcing of UBCs; (iii) assess regulatory policies and impact recyclign of UBCs; (iv) discuss various challenges faced by stakeholders for collection and recycling; and (v) discuss best practices and efforts by the industry to improve recyclability quotient of UBCs in India. UNCRD disucssed about the various opportunities of recyclability and circular economy, importance of biological and technical cycle towards bio-economy and circular economy, and how to minize the systematic leakage and negative externalities, among others.
