UNCRD-LAC was invited to contribute in the International Workshop entitled "Regional Workshop on Human Security", in recognition of the Office's experience capitalized on human security, and the technical cooperation support provided to the UN interagency project on human security in Colombia (funded by the Trust Fund for Human Security). The workshop was organized by the Inter-American Institute of Human Rights (IIDH) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and implemented under the framework of the project funded by the Trust Fund for Human Security (UNTFHS) entitled "Promotion and Development of the Human Security Concept in Latin America".
UNCRD-LAC was requested to contribute on: (i) the analysis of case studies financed by the Human Security Trust Fund-HSTF project, aimed at promoting the adoption of the human security approach in the comprehension of the developmental challenges in Latin American countries, (ii) providing highlights about the impact of human security in the region, from the perspective of concrete projects; and (iii) the dissemination of successful practical applications of the HS concept in selected experiences: Peru, El Salvador, and Colombia (this last is the UN Interagency project supported by UNCRD).
The UN interagency project supported UNCRD-LAC in Soacha, Colombia, was selected among the three best experiences in LAC by the Inter-American Institute of Human Rights (IIDH) and the United Nations Development Programme of Costa Rica (UNDP). UNCRD-LAC also contributed in the preparation and presentation of the experience, in articulation with the representatives of the other UN agencies involved in the project execution.
The Workshop also presented an opportunity to share with workshop participants UNCRD-LAC's experience, particularly the development of methodologies and inclusion of the human security perspective in local and regional development planning, project formulation and implementation and policy making and to discuss possible entries for collaboration in the implementation of future activities with the IIDH.
Attendance: 35 participants representatives of the governments of Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Peru, Brazil, Granada, and representatives of UN agencies that are currently implementing human security projects.
