UNCRD-LAC, and the UN agencies with a regional mandate in Latin America and the Caribbean, was invited to contribute in the interagency discussion and document to assess progress and gaps in the implementation of the outcomes of the major summits on sustainable development, address new and emerging challenges, and to provide "strategic guidelines" pointing the way forward (including main messages that the respective organizations have put forth for the region). This document will be presented to the countries in November 2011.

UNCRD-LAC participated in the various discussion meetings, the drafting of the document in its different chapters (concepts and practices based on the Office's experience), mainly contributing on the theme of integrated territorial development management; human security (involving inter-jurisdictional articulation; interurban and rural-urban); and regional governance and capacity building at the subnational (regional) level for sustainable development.

Attendance: Between 40 to 100 participants in different discussion meetings (representatives of Latin America and the Caribbean countries and UN Agencies/Programmes) with a regional (LAC) mandate (UNEP, UNDP, WFO, UNAIDS, HABITAT, UNFPA, UNOPS, UNCRD and UNCCD) in different discussion meetings.
