Upon the request from the Government of Bangladesh, UNCRD conducted a two-day training course on "Management and Administration of Local Government Institutions for the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives (Ministry of LGRD and Co)" on 19-20 March 2014, in Aichi Prefecture, Japan in collaboration with Asian Institute of Technology in Vietnam (AIT-VN). This course was a component of the training course cum study visit on "Management and Administration of Local Government Institutions" in Japan, Republic of Korea, and China, which was specially designed for the needs of Ministry of LGRD and Co. From November in 2013 to March in 2014, the training course was offered three times, with all costs born by the Government of Bangladesh. This training course was the final one in a series, following the first on 13-14 November 2013 and second on 19-20 February 2014.
Objectives
The main objective of the course is to empower local government institutions in Bangladesh by sharing the knowledge and best practices on local government management and service delivery systems of three countries.

54 Administrators of Zila Parishad (District Council) and senior officials of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives (Ministry of LGRD and Co) of the Government of Bangladesh
Course Contents in Japan
The two-day training curriculum aimed at sharing of knowledge and experience, including the actual examples of good practices of local government management and service delivery systems in Japan. It comprised UNCRD's lecture sessions on sustainable regional development and the Japanese administrative system, a courtesy call to and exchange of views and information with Aichi Prefectural Government, and a study visit to Toyota City, which is developing itself into a smart city together with the private sector.
Expected Outputs
The Ministry of LGRD and Co will submit an official report on what they learned and how it could be introduced and applied at the district level of government in Bangladesh. The training course will ultimately contribute to capacity building for management and administration of local government institutions in Bangladesh.
