Date:  16 October 2010

Over the past two years, UNCRD-LAC has strengthened alliances with other UN agencies such as the UN-Habitat and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in three working areas: (1) Training; (2) Technical Assistance, and; (3) Research. In October 2010, UNCRD-LAC provided support to the Training Programme for Local Experts on Population and Territorial Development in a joint initiative with UNFPA, universities, the Governments of the Department of Bolivar, the City of Cartagena, and the Chamber of Commerce of Cartagena among others, by contributing to the development of a module of a Training Programme centered on territorial organization planning in 15 participating municipalities. UNCRD-LAC was requested to provide inputs to enhance the regional development perspective of the training course.

UNCRD-LAC's presentation highlighted both concepts and practice, focusing on the experience of the regional integration process developed in regional territories that UNCRD-LAC has supported in Colombia and other countries of LAC.

UNCRD expects to continue strengthening its cooperation with UN-HABITAT and UNFPA during 2011 by jointly structuring a training programme; developing technical assistance to enhance the cooperation activities provided by UN agencies to interested public entities; and contributing as well in the elaboration of reports, publications and methodologies.
