Background
Namibia is one of the few African countries which have recognized the importance of decentralized development in nation building. However, experiences have shown that the pace at which regional development plans were prepared and implemented had some shortcomings and gaps as inter-sectoral co-ordination between sectors and other development partners is ineffective. To address these and other capacity gaps, UNCRD and the Government of Namibia organized "Training of Trainers (TOT) Workshop on Sustainable Regional Development Policy and Practices in Namibia" from 25 March - 6 April 2013 in Swakopmund, Namibia.
The main objective of the training workshop is to train the Namibian planners on effective and sustainable regional development policies and practices. The course also aims at equipping the participants with the techniques of conducting effective training programmes so that they can train more planners when they return to their respective workstations.

- Capacity of forty-six Namibian planners improved in the field of regional development policy and programmes to steer the decentralization process
- Namibian planners trained in practical skills for project planning and management; techniques of data collection and analysis
- Namibian planners trained on techniques of data collection and analysis
- Increased capacity of the planners to provide effective training, technical and research services in support of local and regional development and the decentralization programme
- Enhanced skills in environmental management and sustainable regional development
- Institutional capacity of Regional and Local Authorities for undertaking regional development planning and co-ordination, regional policy analysis, project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation will be enhanced
- Forty-six planners sensitized in sustainable development issues and practices from green economy perspectives
