Introduction
First, the programme focuses on the training of planners and development managers of ENNDA in emerging concepts and issues of regional development, including a regional approach to development, techniques of data collection and analysis, environmental management and efficient utilization of natural resources, ecological protection in watershed regions, among others. Policymakers, including local politicians and community leaders, are also sensitized on a regional approach to development and environmental management in the ENNDA region. Second, the programme aims at training the planners and development managers of ENNDA to prepare a sustainable and long-term regional plan for the region. The programme also provides the opportunity for policymakers from the region to actively participate in the planning process by making comments and suggestions on the draft regional plan during the various training workshops.
Objectives
The specific objectives of the training workshop include:
- Reviewing the spatial and sectoral data that has been collected by the task force members;
- Training planners and development managers in techniques of assessment and projection of regional development vision(s);
- Training planners and development managers in techniques of strategy formulation for regional plan preparation;
- Sensitizing the planners and development mangers on techniques of programme formulation for regional plan preparation; and
- Preparing a final draft regional development plan for ENNDA.
