Background

To assist TARDA to effectively undertake its mandate as well as implement the various national policies and strategies of the government, UNCRD Africa Office has been providing technical assistance to the Authority. The technical assistance aims at supporting TARDA's endeavour to design and implement effective regional development policies and build its institutional capacity for integrated regional development plan preparation.

In order to achieve this goal, UNCRD Africa Office jointly with TARDA organized two training workshops on regional development planning and plan preparation for TARDA region in the recent past. As a follow-up to the two workshops, UNCRD Africa Office jointly with TARDA, organized a training workshop on data analysis and validation for regional development planning and plan preparation from 10 – 12 July 2013 in Masinga Dam, Kenya. Fifty-eight regional planners from TARDA region; Ministry of Planning, National Development and Vision 2030; and Ministry of Lands and other stakeholders attended the training workshop.

The major outputs of the workshop are:

  • Fifty-eight regional planners trained in data analysis and validation techniques;
  • Regional planners trained in data analysis for regional plan preparation;
  • Planners trained on role and techniques of GIS for regional plan preparation; and
  • Skills on projection of future regional development scenarios acquired by the planners
