people are participated in an online seminarThe United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD), in conjunction with the 3R WASTE Foundation and the Action Alliance for Recycling Beverage Cartons (AARC), jointly organized a webinar entitled "Beverage Cartons Recycling Practices and Ecosystem for a Circular Economy: Solutions, Updates and Challenges" on May 31, 2023. This webinar served as a pre-event of the 12th Regional 3R and Circular Economy Forum in Asia and the Pacific scheduled for 2024. The webinar was attended by more than ninety participants from seven countries comprising of various stakeholders such as representatives of national and local governments, industry, and social enterprises. The objectives of the webinar were to: (a) Disseminate information amongst different target groups on beverage carton recycling; (b) Enhance capacities knowledge of policymakers and experts, to mend misconceptions regarding the recycling of Used Beverage Cartons (UBCs); (c) Assess regulatory policy that impacts recycling of used beverage cans (UBCs) and make formal submissions towards their strengthening; (d) Discuss various challenges faced by stakeholders for collection and recycling; (e) Discuss best practices efforts by industry to improve the recyclability quotient of UBCs so as to move towards a circular economy; and (f) Innovative Solutions and advocacy concerning the Beverage Carton Industry. UNCRD delivered presentation on "Significance of Circular Economy in Beverage Cartons" discussed various challenges and opportunities of recyclability and circular economy and highlighted Japanese examples of recycling initiatives and circulation strategies. This presentation represented multiple 'R's in circular economy approach that present potential opportunities for the advancement of sustainable solutions and the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
