13th International Conference on Sustainable Waste Management and Circular Economy and IPLA Global Forum 2023 (29 November-2 December 2023, Mumbai, India)

DSDG-UN DESA/UNCRD, International Society Waste Management, Air and Water (ISWMAW), K J Somaiya Institute of Management, Vidyavihar University, Mumbai, India, and Maharashtra Pollution Control Board co-organized the 13th International Conference on Sustainable Waste Management and Circular Economy and IPLA Global Forum 2023 from 29 November to 2 December 2023 at K J Somaiya Institute of Management, Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai, India. IPLA stands for International Partnership for Expending Waste Management Services of Local Authorities (IPLA) – A SDG Partnership. There were more than 300 technical and scientific papers presented at the hybrid Conference which was joined by more than 400 participants from 40 countries. The Conference was officially opened by Mr. Bart De Jong, Consul General of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Mumbai, and Dr. Raman Ramachandran, Director of K J Somaiya Institute of Management of Vidyavihar University. The Conference addressed a number of thematic areas such as – agricultural waste management, bio-medical and healthcare waste, bio-methanation, bio-processing and bio-conversion of waste, business development in waste management, circular economy, climate change and waste management, community participation in waste management, construction and demolition waste, e-waste, food waste, industrial waste, landfill management, wastewater management, marine littering and issue of micro-plastics, and climate change and resilience, among others. UNCRD delivered opening and closing remarks, Chaired and Co-Chaired two special sessions: (a) UNCRD Special Session on 3R and Circular Economy; and (b) UNCRD Special Session on IPLA – a SDG Partnership. Both the special sessions were joined by more than 50 participants from 12 countries. The participants discussed and addressed various strategies towards advancing 3R and Circular Economy in various waste categories such as biomass (bioeconomy), end-of-life batteries, E-waste management, construction and demolition waste, as well as hazardous and chemical waste, and wastewater among others.
