International Symposium on Transforming Mobility for Humanity to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of The Limits to Growth

On 14 December, the United Nations Centre for regional Development (UNCRD) co-organized the International Symposium "Transforming Mobility for Humanity" with the Japanese Association of the Club of Rome, Chulalongkorn University, Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI), World Conference on Transport Research Society (WCTRS), Japan Transport and Tourism Research Institute (JTTRI), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)/Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) Project "Smart Transport Strategy for Thailand 4.0", and Chubu University.

Following the opening Plenary Session with remarks by hosting organizations, Prof. Dr. Yoshitsugu Hayashi, Executive Committee Member and Japan Association President, the Club of Rome, delivered the keynote address "Sufficient Mobility for People Overcoming Mortality, Carbon Neutrality, and Energy". In the Policy Dialogue, political leaders including Mr. Sanon Wangsrangboon, Deputy Governor of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Mr. Ahmad Rifai, Co-Founder/Executive Director, Kota Kita Foundation, and Dr. Wei-Shiuen Ng, Economic Affairs Officer, Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) provided a deeper philosophy on mobility for humanity and comprehensive policy dialogues to overcome global transport sector issues, including traffic congestion, road accidents, energy consumption, and pollution and health. Director of UNCRD delivered closing remarks, after high-level professors and outstanding experts made presentations in Roundtable 1 "Mobility and Mortality Risk Challenges", Roundtable 2 "Alternative Solution Strategies and Instruments", and Roundtable 3 "Solution Package for Bangkok".
