Release of “Halfway to 2030: Japan SDG Local and Regional Report 2023” during the SDG Action Weekend, 16 September 2023, New York

at SDGs week in New York, group photoThe United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD) participated in the official side event “Regional Actions and Cooperation to Support SDG Localisation and Building Resilience,” which was organized by the Permanent Mission Malaysia to United Nations and the Permanent Mission Brunei Darussalam to United Nations at Maritime Affairs and Natural Resources during the SDG Action Weekend on 16-17 September 2023. This event brought together the Ministry of Economy and Ministry of Local Government Development, the Government of Malaysia, United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Local 2030, United Cities and Local Governments Asia Pacific (UCLG-ASPAC), and URBANICE Malaysia. UNCRD delivered a presentation on its activities of SDG monitoring at the local level in Japan and newly leased “Halfway to 2030: Japan SDG Local and Regional Report 2023”. Focused on regional approaches that consider local, national, and regional factors to accelerate progress towards the 2030 Agenda, the event discussed on strategies, policies, actions, and collaborations that can assist governments in implementing the SDGs at the local level while strengthening local resilience. Additionally, the importance of addressing disparities, improving the well-being of marginalized populations, promoting inclusivity, and advancing gender equality efforts, all contributing to global stability and resilience, was also underscored.
