Background

UNCRD Africa Office responded to a request by the Government of Kenya through Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority (TARDA) for technical assistance to design and implement a training programme towards building TARDA’s institutional capacity for integrated regional development and plan preparation in implementing national policies in the basin. As a follow-up to the first training workshop held in April 2012, UNCRD Africa Office jointly with TARDA, organized a training workshop on data collection and analysis for regional development planning and plan preparation. Sixty-nine regional planners from TARDA region; Ministry of Planning, National Development and Vision 2030; and Ministry of Lands attended the training workshop.

 

Outputs of the Workshop

  • Sixty-nine regional planners trained in data collection methods for river basin development planning and plan preparation
  • Regional planners trained in data analysis for regional plan preparation
  • Regional planners’ skills on census data projection improved
  • Skills on projection of future regional development scenarios acquired by the planners
