UNCRD/UN DESA led Session on Sustainable Urban Mobility & UN Decade of Sustainable Transport at 15th Asian-Pacific City Summit (20 October 2026, Fukuoka, Japan)

As an integral part of the 15th Asian-Pacific City Summit in Fukuoka, Japan, 19-21 October 2026, which was organized under the theme of “Collaborating & Co-Creating: Initiatives for Sustainable Cities,” and was joined by approximately 300 participants, including mayors, governors, city representatives, and other stakeholders from twenty-seven cities across eleven countries, the United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD)/United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) led the Session on “Accelerating Sustainable Urban Mobility in Asia-Pacific Cities: Local Actions, Global Commitments and Pathways to the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport" on 20 October 2026, which featured, among others a video address by Hon. Mayor of Seongnam City of Republic of Korea Mr. Sang-Jin Shin, sharing various sustainable transport initiatives of the city, including its hosting of the 17th High-Level Regional EST Forum in Asia in 2027; the Division for Sustainable Development Goals (DSDG)/UN DESA’s video address on the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport (2026-2035) and its overarching objectives in accelerating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate goals, including how Asia-Pacific cities could take the full benefits of the upcoming webinar series aimed to foster peer learning, exchange of information and best practices, and capacity building; UNCRD's presentation on "Accelerating Sustainable Urban Mobility in Asian Cities towards Achieving the Aichi 2030 Declaration on Environmentally Sustainable Transport (2021-2030); the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), Government of Japan's presentation on "National Policy Approaches and Support for Sustainable Transport Transformation"; and Davao City's presentation on "Sustainable Transport Initiative".
