UNCRD contribution to the 16th International Conference on Waste Management and Technology [16th ICWMT, 2021 Global Waste Forum (Hybrid) (25-28 June, 2021)] (Pre-event of 11th Regional 3R and Circular Economy Forum in Asia and the Pacific)

With UNCRD-DSDG/UN DESA as a supporting organization, Tsinghua University, Solid Waste and Chemicals Management Center, Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China, the United Nations Environment Programme, Stockholm Convention Regional Centre for Capacity-building and the Transfer of Technology in Asia and the Pacific, Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area Administrative Committee, The Society of Solid Waste, Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, Research Institute of Solid Waste Management, Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences co-organized the 16th International Conference on Waste Management and Technology [16th ICWMT, 2021 Global Waste Forum (Hybrid)], from 25 to 28 June 2021 on the theme of "Building Zero-waste Cities Progressively". The conference was organized as a pre-event of the upcoming UNCRD-DSDG/UN DESA led "11th Regional 3R and Circular Economy Forum in Asia and the Pacific", which is scheduled to be held in 2021. UNCRD delivered a presentation on "Outcome of the 10th Regional 3R and Circular Economy Forum in Asia and the Pacific 2020". Furthermore, UNCRD also co-organized and chaired a Special Session of IPLA - a SDG Partnership (Hybrid) on 27 June 2021, addressing role of circular economy towards achieving the SDGs. About 150 participants from 11 countries comprising of academia, NGOs, national and local government officers, private sectors, UN, and international organizations took part in the special session of IPLA. This session aimed to build a world-wide network of waste-related infrastructure and services, promote circular economy model, share knowledge and best practices in areas of 3R and circular economy.
